Mentoring is one of the most important aspects of any accelerator, and Launchpad Work is no different. For those of you unfamiliar with it, Launchpad Work is an accelerator which Ākina is running this year specifically for social enterprises who are creating employment opportunities for those who face the greatest barriers to work in the Greater Auckland region. There are some amazing examples of organisations working towards this both in New Zealand and overseas, so we are focusing on growing more of these this year.

How are we going to do this? Launchpad Work is a 6 month long accelerator where we provide wrap around support to 8-10 teams. This support is highly tailored to what each team needs to help them achieve their goals throughout the program. This is not an accelerator full of structured and predetermined workshops, it is much more bespoke and created in alignment with what each team needs.

This support will come from Ākina and our team of expert Venture Managers, our Partners, and of course mentors. Mentors are fundamental to the success of our accelerator, as they provide fresh perspectives and a deep level of expertise which all early stage organisations need. With Launchpad, we are aiming to be able to offer the support of multiple mentors to our teams, each with a different field of expertise.

The expertise we are looking for is quite broad, but all fall within the ambit of ‘things early stage organisations need’. This includes:

  • financial modelling
  • accounting
  • sales
  • marketing
  • operations
  • PR
  • and anything else you’ve probably learnt from experience that early stage businesses need.

On top of this, a passion to grow the social enterprise sector in New Zealand is definitely a bonus, as you will be working with some of the country’s most exciting social enterprises during a period of significant acceleration.

In terms of commitment, the accelerator runs from May to October in 2017, and we are looking for mentors to spend around 3 hours per month with supporting their venture.

Heard enough? If you’re interested, we’d love you to complete the application form here before applications close on 31 March. We’ll then be in touch with next steps early April. Or if you’d like to know more, feel free to contact Jackson from Ākina at jackson.rowland@akina.org.nz or 0274656222.
